Menu Planning Monday

Announcing our "theme" for the month....

It's Potato Month here on the blog!!!

I will be featuring several potato recipes...from potato toppers, to side dishes, and on to soups and main dishes. There will even be some bread and roll recipes and also, are you ready for this???...dessert recipes that use potatoes. There will also be some fun Halloween recipes popping up here on the blog-because of my great love for Halloween! Get ready...Here we go!

Every September, a trek is made to Grace, Idaho to get potatoes. Check out how big these potatoes are. We had a baked potato bar for dinner last night and one potato fed me, Kile, and Destrie!

Let me tell you, this is one of my favorite times of year. Those of you who know me know that I LOVE potatoes. If I had to pick one food to eat the rest of my life, it would be a potato.... in some shape or form!

This year, there was a cookbook available at the place where we get our potatoes, so several recipes will come from this book.

My menu plan for the week:

Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, Potato Wedges, Watermelon

Potatoes with Zesty Ground Beef Topping, Grapes

Beef Tenderloin Steak, Cheesy Ranch Twice Baked Potatoes

Country Boy Microwave Scramble with Toast

Light Potato Soup, Breadsticks

Also, if any of you have a favorite potato dish...please send me your recipe. I would love to try it!

Menu Planning Monday

I have to admit, I am in a bit of a rut lately...a menu planning/recipe rut to be exact.  Nothing is really sounding good to me right now and I have had several recipe failures over the last couple weeks.  I tried a few recipes that sounded good, but no one liked the finished product, so they ended up going straight to the trash and I hate it when that happens.  I would love to hear what yummy things you are eating this week and would love some suggestions...
Here are 2 things I will be making this week and hopefully I can come up with a few more.  Have a great week!

Crispy Chicken with Creamy Italian Sauce
Potato Pizza

Menu Planning Monday

So, I misplaced my receipts from last weeks grocery shopping trips...I will try to get back on track with that this week. Today I will be posting a delicious salad that I took to an Easter lunch at my parents house.  It was a hit and was gobbled up quickly.  There was only on serving left and I ate it in the car on the ride home.  So good!
Here is a look at what we are eating this week;

Ham Fried Rice and  Egg Rolls
Won Ton Chicken Tacos
Sesame Chicken and Lemony Egg Soup
Penne Spinach Salad
Chicken Alfredo Pasta

* I am also hoping to have time to try some homemade donuts that I found on a recipe blog awhile back.
Have a great week!

Menu Planning Monday

I am super busy today.  I have guests coming for dinner and I spent a good chunk of the morning doing homework...not mine, but I was saving the day for one of my kids.  Anyway, no time for meal planning today.  I will be cooking something this week (when I figure out what).  So, check back for those recipes.

My grocery total for last week was: $57.25

Here is a what I am serving my dinner guests tonight: The theme is "Easter Dinner"

Shredded Ham
Cheesy Potatoes
Rolls
Fruit Dip/Fruit

Menu Planning Monday

So, for the past 3 weeks I spent practically nothing at the grocery store and I was oh so proud of myself.  The only problem with this was, that I depleted most of our staple and freezer items.  When I finally drug myself to the store-(on 3 different occasions)  my totals rang in at $173.48.
Long story short, the lesson here is that $100 is pretty close to the amount that works for us each week. Spending so little all those weeks really just meant I had to play catch up.   Granted, the whole family was here for the week because of Spring Break, so maybe that had something to do with it.  Anyway, I will continue on with my goal of spending around $100 a week and see how things play out.  Here's what we will be eating this week:

Kelly's Meaty Tot Casserole
Ham Stuffed Manicotti- never got to this last week
Glazed Bacon Wrapped Meatloaf- never got to this
Ranch Mac and Cheese
Sandwiches and Salad

April 4, 2011

Menu Planning Monday

So, lasts week's grocery total was $50.14.  Yay!  We have been well under budget the last couple of weeks, the bad thing about that is, now we are running out of several staples and a big shopping trip will have to happen soon.  Here is a look at what we will be eating this week:

Applebee's Oriental Chicken Salad
Slow Cooker Mac and Cheese
Garden Pita
Ham Stuffed Manicotti

That should probably be enough menu planning this week as it is Spring Break and I am hoping to get out and have some fun.  Enjoy your week!

Menu Planning Monday

I am not a fan of grocery shopping.  Once again, I spent the week trying to avoid the grocery store because I simply was not in the mood.  We didn't starve this week, as we ate from the freezer and the pantry.  I did have to pick up a couple items at the store, but I failed to keep my receipts.  Best guess on how much on how much I spent this past week is probably around $30.  My lack of desire to go grocery shopping is saving me lots of money!  Here is a look at what we are eating this week:

Red and White Pasta-Ya, we are having it again-the girls can't get enough!

Teriyaki Chicken Noodle Bowl

Chicken Strips/Tater Tots

Glazed Bacon Wrapped Meatloaf/Potato Cakes/Veggies

Sausage and Pancake Strata

March 21, 2011

Menu Planning Monday

Last week I never made it to the store to do an official shopping trip for the week.  I had most everything I needed at home to make my recipes.  I did make a couple quick trips to the store to grab milk and one or two other things that were on sale-Lee's had a meal deal coupon where you could get a pizza, carton of ice cream and a 2 liter of pop for $5.  We grabbed 3 of those to have on hand.  3 meal deals, milk, and a few various items put my spending for the week at $26.  Not bad!
I am on a money saving mission again this week, so I will be trying to use recipes that call for ingredients I already have on hand.  Here's a look at what we will be eating this week:

Chicken Enchiladas
Sandwiches/Chips/Veggies with Dip
Hamburgers/Potato Wedges
Caribbean Grilled Steak/Potato Halves
Breakfast for Dinner

March 14, 2011

Menu Planning Monday

Last weeks budget goal was close...I spent $99 on groceries for the week.  We were out of several staples so that made the amount higher.  I am hoping to pull a much lower number this upcoming week...we will see how things go.  Have a great week!

Here's a look at what we will be eating this week:

South of the Border Casserole

Hamburger Pie

Vegetable Chicken and Corn Chowder

Steak/Skillet Potatoes with Bacon and Cheddar/Tossed Salad

And something else...I can't decide yet what else I want to make. Check back later to see - I'm sure it will be exciting!!!

Menu Planning Monday

So, last week my goal of spending $100 on groceries was pretty easy.  I had most of the ingredients for the meals I had planned.  I ended up spending  $51.64 on groceries.  There were also two meals and treats that I didn't have a chance to make...  those I will save for another time.

This week on the blog is going to be Breakfast for Dinner week. Breakfast is one of my favorite meals and the people in my family are not morning time eaters. Hence, Breakfast for Dinner  =  problem solved!
What's your favorite thing to eat for Breakfast?

Check back next week, to see if I  stayed within my $100 budget for the week.

Here's a look at what we are eating this week:

Ham and Cheese Omelets/Toast/Fruit Soup

Bacon/Egg and Cheese Biscuits/ Hashbrown Casserole

Waffles with Cinnamon Syrup/Scrambled Eggs/Fruit
