New Food Finds

The other  night, we were struggling for ideas of what to eat for dinner.  Kile had the idea to take the family to Walmart and let each person choose an item for our meal.  We picked an "International" theme for our dinner menu.  Following is a list of what foods we chose and our rating for each item.

I chose Mexican food:  Sweet Corn Salsa and Queso Dip with Corn Chips

It was fun to try all these different foods.  A few of them we will be buying again.  We would like to find a great recipe to season meat for Fajitas...if anyone has one, send it our way.

New Food Finds-Carribean Grilled Steak

McCormick has a new product out called, Recipe Inspirations.  I grabbed a few of them at the store the other day and thought I would give them a try.

The packet comes with all the spices you need for your recipe and you add a few ingredients-that are listed on the back of the package.  This recipe was supposed to be served with grilled pineapple, but the other people who live here don't like cooked pineapple, so we just served it with pineapple from a can...fancy I know.

Hot Cocoa Bar

A blog I read-"Your Home Based Mom", shared this idea for  a Hot Cocoa Bar. My kids have been loving hot cocoa for years and one of our new favorite things to do is buy flavored creamer to add to our hot cocoa.There are so many flavors of creamer, that it is going to take us awhile to try all of them!  For those of you out there who may be trying to count calories, Swiss Miss makes a "Diet" hot cocoa powder that has only 25 calories when made with water.  Add a little creamer to this and it is delicious!
  I hosted Bunco at my house last week and I set up a Hot Cocoa Bar.  I had several creamers, marshmallows, whipping cream, kit kats, and candy canes for stirring.  I also set out glazed donuts and donut holes-(powdered and cinnamon and sugar) for dipping.  It turned out good and was very yummy. 

New Food Finds

Gum really isn't food I guess, but this stuff is really good and I wanted to let people know about it.  I have tried the Strawberry Shortcake and the Mint Chocolate Chip varieties.  Yum!!  I think the Mint Chocolate Chip is my favorite.  Has anyone tried the Key Lime Pie???

A New Treat

My kids thought these were pretty yummy, truth be told so did I.  I really don't eat a lot of stuff like this though- so this one is for the kids...Madee thought they kind of tasted like Chex Muddy buddies.

Deli Deluxe Bacon Cheddar Cheese

We saw the commercial for this product on T.V. and we had to try it. We made sandwiches with ham added some mayo. and this cheese. We put them in our Express 101 and made "hot" Ham and Cheese Melts. This cheese had a good flavor to it, we really liked it.

7 Up Citrus Marinade

We marinated chicken tenders in this marinade overnight and grilled them the next day. They were pretty good and had a light citrus flavor.

I love it when I find new products that are actually good! There have been a few new things I have tried lately that have not been worthy of posting. This one however, is a keeper!

These are sooo good- almost addictive I would have to say. We buy these at Dollar Tree. I don't know if the grocery stores carry them...I will have to look next time I am there.

We came across these crackers during Christmas time. Kiley absolutely "loves" them and requests often that I pick up a box if I'm at the grocery store. The regular are good, but the cheddar ones are our favorite.

I came across these drink mixes awhile ago and we love them! I think they are as good as the Crystal Light brand. Our very favorite flavor is the Strawberry Orange Banana.

I have decided I am going to add a new element to the blog. I will be searching out new food products that I have not used before and if I find something that I really like, I will review it on the blog.

Two weeks ago, I hosted Bunco at my house. I served a tossed green salad with my home-made Ranch Dressing. I wanted to have other dressing options available also. I picked up a bottle of Western Family Light Raspberry Vinaigrette. I had no idea if it would be any good, but I thought it was worth a shot.
I just barely got around to trying this dressing 2 days ago and I loved it! It only has 70 calories per 2 Tbsp serving and it is delicious. Some times "store brands" aren't that good, but in this case, the Western Family brand dressing was a great choice and was much less expensive than the "name brand" product. Try some, and let me know what you think.
